Urbanisation and agriculture in the Mediterranean : conflicts and complementarities
This scientific work is the result of an international colloquium on “Urbanisation and Agriculture” organised in Tunis in November 1994, under the direction of CIHEAM and supported by the European Commission and the Tunisian Ministry of Agriculture. The articles are almost entirely devoted to the southern Mediterranean countries: from Turkey to Morocco. Between urban growth and the difficulties of land management; ruptures in the balance between the city and the resources of the environment; and towards integrated rural development in a new approach to urban-rural relations, they demonstrate the extent of the problems of spatial occupation, the environment and economic growth, which require the establishment of a “dialogue” between the different areas.
