The articles in this collection use literature, theatre and iconography to highlight the diverse relationships between culture and food, analysing their normative aspects (table manners, dietary regimes), aesthetic aspects (the visuality of food and its rituals), scenic aspects (the table as a spectacle), social aspects (hierarchisation and discrimination through conviviality) and symbolic aspects (food as part of systems of assimilation and exclusion or as a subversive attitude).
