He’s after the immortal tree: Olives and olive oil in Turkey
“According to the legend, Adam, who was expelled from paradise together with Eve, felt that he was going to die at the age of 930 and decided to ask God to forgive him and thus all humanity. For this purpose, he sends his son Seth to the Garden of Eden. The angel guarding the garden, upon Seth’s prayer, gives him three seeds from the Tree of Good and Evil and tells him to put them in his father’s mouth and bury him after his death. Adam dies and is buried in the Hebron Valley near Mount Tabor. From the three seeds that germinated and took root in Adam’s mouth, three trees, symbolising the Mediterranean climate, sprouted: Olive, cedar and cypress…” The olive tree, known as the Immortal Tree or the Tree of Life in Mediterranean legends, has been in the life of mankind since ancient times, promising health, flavour and beauty to humanity, sometimes with its fruit and sometimes with its oil. The story of olives and olive oil still continues. Artun Ünsal wrote about the adventure of this tree, which is considered sacred in religious texts, its fruit and oil; the great adventure of olive oil in Anatolia, which has an important place in the Mediterranean geography. Covering all aspects of our olives and olive oil, from the production of olive oil in ancient times to today’s olive oil technology, from the agricultural characteristics of the tree to its place in today’s economic life, this book expands our vocabulary of knowledge about that golden liquid.
