The Routes of the Olive Tree ... More than a destination ... It's another way to see the world
The olive tree has left its mark not only on the landscape but also on the daily life of Mediterranean peoples. A sacred tree, it is linked to their rituals and customs and has influenced their lifestyle, creating a unique cultural identity.
The “Routes of the Olive Tree” follow in the traces of this cultural identity, from Greece to the Black Sea and throughout the Mediterranean. These routes promote intercultural dialogue, highlight and contribute to the exploitation of the cultural heritage of the olive tree, a universal symbol of peace. They act as a bridge for new collaborations between olive-producing regions, organisations, scientists, researchers, producers and artists from many olive-producing countries, chambers of commerce, businesses and other Euro-Mediterranean networks.
Through proposals for discovering the world of the olive tree, exhibitions, cultural events, business meetings, social activities, forums, art competitions, research and publications, the “Olive Routes” contribute to European cohesion and good neighborliness with Mediterranean countries by promoting the cultural heritage of the olive tree, common to all.
Today, our Cultural Route is present in 15 countries: Greece, Italy, Spain, France, Portugal, Morocco, Lebanon, Palestine, Tunisia, Slovenia, Croatia, Cyprus, Turkey, Montenegro, Bosnia-Herzegovina… More than 400 points of interest have been recorded and numerous route suggestions have been designed.
