IMPORTANT INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION OF THE MILLENNIAL OLIVE TREES OF TERRITORIO SENIA & REWARD FOR THE WORK OF THE MANCOMUNITAT TAULA DEL SENIA AND TERRITORI SENIA, MEMBERS OF THE NETWORK OTROUTES – ROUTES OF THE OLIVE TREE

On Monday 22 May 2023, at FAO Headquarters in Rome, FAO Director-General QU Dongyu handed over to Teresa Adell (Director of Mancomunitat Taula del Sénia) and Jaume Antich (President of Territori Sénia Association) official recognition of the millennia-old olive trees of the Sénia region as GIAHS (Global Important Agricultural Heritage System).

During the award ceremony, Teresa Adell, presented the main features of this system, which aims to protect, preserve and promote the value of these monumental olive trees, which number more than 7,000 and are still alive and bearing fruit in the region.

We take this opportunity to congratulate the members of the OTRoutes – Routes of the Olive Tree Network, Mancomunitat Taula del Sénia and Territori Sénia for this important recognition, which rewards their tireless efforts to promote this important cultural asset of their region.
