An interdisciplinary and international scientific committee ensures and supports our work in this direction, as well as the cooperation with Universities, scientific research centres of several countries, which have greatly increased in recent years. In this context, several research projects have been or are ongoing.
THE OLIVE OIL SECTOR IN THE AGE OF THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY
The “Routes of the Olive Tree” insist on their commitment to contribute to the development of olive oil producing areas in the Mediterranean and have collaborated to develop a study on the recovery of olive by-products and biomass in Messinia (Greece). This study, conducted as part of a research by Montpellier University 3 Paul Valéry (France), is to analyse Messenia’s potential for developing an environmentally friendly agriculture. By diagnosing and meeting with organizations that support or wish to support this process, the aim is to promote innovative actions in favour of a sustainable ecological olive cultivation and a cyclical economy resulting from the waste of mills.
INTERDISCIPLINARY POSTGRADUATE PROGRAM (MSC) COUNSELING AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP FOR RURAL DEVELOPMENT
In the framework of the Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Program “Counseling and Entrepreneurship for Rural Development” (http://www.farmbm.aua.gr/), the University of Athens’s Associate Departments of Economics and Rural Development and students oriented in Tourism- Ecotourism committed to researching and submitting their suggestions and ideas for the “Routes of the Olive Tree” “cultural route.

The census that has been undertaken for nearly 4 years in 5 countries will soon be fruitful: the opening of the e-library is planned for 2020!
This book listing about the olive tree will be listed per European / Mediterranean country. The E-library will present olive-related works and will be an educational material for every type of public.
THE OLIVE CULTURE, INTANGIBLE CULTURAL HERITAGE
Study, initiated by members of the OTRoutes Network in 4 countries (Greece, Italy, Spain, Tunisia), with the aim of registering the olive culture as a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage. It should be noted that the Scientific Committee of “Routes of the Olive Tree” has contributed significantly with its know-how and international experience in preparing the study with a view to submitting the application.
CHARTER OF OLIVE TREE CULTURAL HERITAGE
As the Routes of the Olive Tree network is expanding to more and more countries, we are conducting research in the participating areas and collecting information on olive culture, recording the olive tree’s cultural heritage and points of interest that should be highlighted.
