Cultural Evenings, Open-Air Cinema & Photography Exhibition
The vibrant summer cultural season in Methoni has officially kicked off, brought to you by the Cultural Association of the Friends of Methoni Castle, the Cultural Association of Methoni, and the Cultural Foundation Routes of The Olive Tree.
Opening Highlights
The festivities began with the inauguration of the stunning photography exhibition “The Olive Tree Routes on the Silk Roads”, expertly curated by Vangelis Nikolaou from Galerie A49 in Kalamata. The exhibition is hosted inside the historic Syngros Building, with generous support from the Municipality of Pylos-Nestor.
On opening night, guests also enjoyed a special cultural event celebrating both the renowned 2008 Olive Tree Route journey and the upcoming international route “Olive Tree Routes to the Black Sea” (2026).
The evening featured warm welcome speeches from
- Panagiotis Karvelas, Mayor of Pylos-Nestor,
and insightful presentations by - Dionysis Psalidas, Principal of Methoni Primary School and Vice-President of the Friends of Methoni Castle,
- Ioanna Ravani, Director of the Environmental Education Centre of Kalamata,
- George Karampatos, Executive Director of Olive Tree Routes, who shared stories from the epic 17,000 km journey that started in Pylos and traversed Central Asia, highlighting the importance of intercultural dialogue—a key theme of the exhibition.

Come visit the exhibition at Syngrou Building in the beautiful Methoni. Join us at the Methoni Cultural Centre for a rich programme of activities including: lectures and thematic workshops and a two-day tribute to the renowned archaeologist Petros Themelis.
Plus, every Sunday in August at 21:00, enjoy open-air screenings of international films in the courtyard of the Syngros Building. These screenings are organised by Olive Tree Routes and the Friends of Methoni Castle, in collaboration with the New Film Club of Kalamata.
Photography Exhibition Details
“The Olive Tree Routes on the Silk Roads” exhibition is open daily (closed Mondays and Tuesdays) from 19:00 to 22:00.
