Photo Exhibition 2008+17 “The Olive Tree Routes on the Silk Roads”

A cultural evening was held with success and large participation on the occasion of the opening of the Photo Exhibition on Sunday, July 27, in Methoni (Syngrou Building).

The event was dedicated to older and newer proposals of cultural routes and the meeting of culture with ecotourism, through contemporary narratives, images, tastes, and stories.

The event was welcomed by the Mayor of Pylos-Nestor, Mr. Panagiotis Karvelas, host of the exhibition in the recently renovated and aesthetically pleasing Syngrou Building. During the evening, there were themed presentations by Dionysis Psalidas, Director of the Primary School of Methoni & President of the Community of Methoni, Ioanna Ravanis, Director of the Kalamata Environmental Education Center, Francesca Maimone, who presented the Erasmus+ NEXT ROUTES project, and the Executive Director of the Cultural Foundation “Routes of the Olive Tree,” Giorgos Karabatos, who presented the next planned grand cultural route in the Black Sea countries.

The evening ended with a tasting of local extra virgin olive oils from the agrotourism unit: AGROS – EVONYMON (point of interest on the cultural route “Olive Tree Route” and

an outdoor movie screening of the Spanish film “El Olivo” (The Olive Tree) in the outdoor area of the “Syggrou” building.

The photo exhibition “2008 + 17 – Pylos” is a visual dedication to the grand intercultural mission of the “Olive Route,” which in 2008 crossed 17,000 km from Pylos to Central Asia to strengthen intercultural dialogue and the bonds that unite peoples and histories. On display are photographs by photographers Andrea Bonetti, Giorgos Prinos, and Tasos Vamvakas, who participated and captured moments from this unique cultural journey with their cameras, bringing to light the silent journey of two great cultures: that of the olive tree and that of silk.

The exhibition will be open to the public until October 30, 2025 (daily from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., except Mondays and Tuesdays). Free entry.
