Within the framework of the ALF in MOTION Programme, promoted by the Anna Lindh Foundation, the cultural foundation OTR Routes of the Olive Tree is hosting in Kalamata Rouand Jamlan, an environmental engineer from Nablus, Palestine, and founder of Barakeh, a start-up focused on sustainable packaging derived from olive mill by-products.
Through its participation in initiatives that foster intercultural dialogue, our organisation aims to highlight best practices in environmental protection across olive-growing territories and to give visibility to youth entrepreneurship, of which Rouand Jamlan represents an inspiring and noteworthy example.
Driven by the belief that environmental solutions should be accessible, practical, and integrated into everyday life, Barakeh designs and develops packaging using natural and recycled materials, based on the principles of the circular economy, the reuse of agricultural waste, and consideration of long-term environmental impacts. However, Barakeh is more than a packaging company; it is a platform that brings together conscious design, sustainability, cultural authenticity, and responsible innovation. Through its work, it seeks to strengthen the connection between people and nature, support local production, and offer scalable solutions for businesses and initiatives across different sectors.
Within this creative framework, the visit focuses on the exchange of good practices in circular economy that can respond to contemporary needs. Field visits are planned, along with a public awareness and information event addressing waste management challenges across the Mediterranean.
About the ALF in MOTION Programme
ALF in MOTION is a programme created by the Anna Lindh Foundation with the aim of strengthening intercultural cooperation and mobility in the Mediterranean. It focuses on three main pillars:
- Artistic creation and cultural actions: Supporting art projects, exhibitions, theatre performances, and other cultural initiatives that bring together communities from different countries.
- Youth and education: Offering participatory workshops, seminars, and exchange programmes for young people, encouraging active engagement and the development of skills related to intercultural dialogue and social innovation.
Networks and partnerships: Creating platforms for cooperation among cultural organisations, NGOs, and communities, promoting the exchange of experiences, best practices, and innovative approaches to social and cultural challenges.
