The “Routes of the Olive Tree”, which started in 1998, are today made up of an extremely extensive and multicultural network comprising 180 members, partners and friends from all the Mediterranean countries and beyond.
The success of the “Olive Tree Routes” mainly rests on this network of members, friends and supporters who weave around it a wonderful chain of solidarity, supporting actions and ensuring the sustainability of the initiative.
Today, the members of the Network are universities, Chambers of Commerce, research centers, NGOs, small and medium-sized enterprises, cultural institutions, local development agencies but also individuals, olive growers, experts in the fields of culture, art, history, researchers, all passionate about the Mediterranean and the Olive Tree in more than 20 countries.
The “Routes of the Olive Tree” also collaborate with networks active around the Mediterranean, such as the Network of Mediterranean Olive Cities ReCoMed, the Anna LINDH network, INSULEUR etc. and seek the expansion of the Network in collaboration with the members already registered, the other Council of Europe itineraries or others.
THE UNIVERSITIES
The Foundation has always been oriented towards culture and wishes to keep this anchoring. However, for the long-term conservation of this olive-growing civilization, its landscape, natural and economic dimensions must also be taken into account. In this context, the role of universities is essential. The new interdisciplinary and international scientific committee includes several academics and thus ensures cooperation with universities and scientific research centers in several countries, which have multiplied considerably in recent years.

The cultural itineraries «Routes of the Olive Tree» aim at valorising the Olive Tree lands and products and connecting them to the local past, history and traditions. This has proven to benefit and even save the economy of many regions. For this reason, the Mediterranean chambers are among the most fervent supporters of this initiative.
