The Education Centre for the Environment and Sustainability (KEPEA) of Kalamata in cooperation with the Cultural Foundation “Routes of the Olive Tree ” organizes on Sunday 26 November 2023 (World Olive Day), 12.00-14.30, an in person open event for the local community, at the REX Hotel (26 Aristomenous Street, Kalamata) to promote the use of extra virgin olive oil and table olives, entitled “Kalamata: a gastronomic destination with the PDO Kalamata olive “, in celebration of World Olive Day. The event is mainly addressed to parents/guardians of students of the schools of Kalamata’s first and second level of education.
The main purpose of the event is to incorporate healthy eating habits in the students’ daily meal, while promoting the quality of PDO Kalamata table olive and PDO Extra Virgin Olive Oil of Kalamata. The event will include an information session by Professor Maria Demetriou on the nutritional value of the olive and olive oil, presentation of local dishes, and a cooking contest with the participation of parents/guardians, where the dishes should include the edible PDO Kalamata Olive as an ingredient.
The contest, which has a non-profit character, is supported by the REX Hotel, the AGROVIM company, and PALMI KOINSEP. Participation is free of charge and pre-registration is required until 24/11/2023. At the end of the event, there will be a buffet with all the dishes for tasting and recipe sharing, promoting the creation of an olive-gastronomic community of non-professionals.
