From 20 to 23 April 2022, under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Lebanon Michel Anoun and in the presence of the Minister of Tourism Walid Nassar, the Lebanese American University (LAU) and the Lebanese Ministry of Tourism organized this event in cooperation with the Lebanese Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Agriculture, the European Institute of Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe and four Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe: The Phoenician Route, Iter Vitis, EL Legado Andalusi and the Routes of the Olive Tree.
These days marked the celebration of Lebanon’s accession as the 35th member state of the Council of Europe’s Enlarged Partial Agreement on Cultural Routes and included workshops and visits to various cities in the country, such as Beirut, Byblos, Jounieh, Batroun, Bchaaleh, Bkassine, Douma, where new partnerships were agreed upon to promote their wonderful cultural heritage through the creation of cultural routes.
The “Routes of the Olive Tree” were represented by Marinella Katsilieri, who had the honour to participate in this Forum which aimed to disseminate knowledge about the history of Lebanon, to strengthen the economy and tourism through the Council of Europe’s cultural routes. As part of the visits to these emblematic Lebanese cities, an Olive Tree was symbolically planted in the city of Bchaaleh to seal and celebrate the intercultural dialogue and Lebanon’s connectivity with the “Routes of the Olive Tree”, Cultural Route of the Council of Europe.
