With great success, was completed the event on healthy snack at school and the promotion of the use of olive oil and olives, entitled “GALA-Brunch: The importance of school snack for the health of students and its preparation”, on Saturday 26 November 2022, at the Music School of Kalamata. The event was organized by the Centre for Education for the Environment and Sustainability (KEPEA) of Kalamata in cooperation with the Cultural Foundation “Routes of the Olive Tree” and the Music School of Kalamata.
The event was attended by 102 students from Kalamata Primary Schools with 90 parents/guardians and 25 teachers from the A/ Primary and B/ Secondary Education of Messinia. The main purpose of the event was the inclusion in the students’ daily snack, of ingredients based on healthy nutrition and the promotion of Kalamata as a gastronomic destination with the edible PDO Kalamata Olive.
In detail, 3 parallel actions were carried out:
A. a restaurant called “Gala Brunch” for STUDENTS: menu with snack items consisting of healthy foods and olive oil tasting.
Β. Workshop entitled: “The importance of the school snack for the health of students and its preparation”. Parents/guardians as well as teachers, at the same time, were in the auditorium of the school where the workshop was held, which continued with questions from parents and teachers to the speakers and concluded with the multiplier event of the Erasmus+ project FabRoutes.
C. Let’s go for toasted oiled bread in the olive-mills
On the same day at noon, 12 students and their parents visited the olive-mill of the Agricultural Cooperative of Kalamata with their parents and tasted toasted fresh bread dipped in first-oil and chatted with the producers who were extracting their oil.
We would like to note that all the actions of the event were based on the participation of many stakeholders, businesses and citizens who collaborated for the success of the celebration of the World Olive Day, with the common goal of repeating the events every year until it becomes an institution for the city of Kalamata and its people.
